I have a tradition of writing out my children's birth story from my journal on their birthday so here you go...
On Tuesday June 18th I started feeling like something wasn't right but went about my day. That night I knew something wasn't right and made an appointment to see Dr. Grant at 9:30am on Wednesday.
Seth wasn't feeling well Tuesday evening so he was able to go to the appointment with me (God thing? I think so) We arrived at the office and went through our normal routine. Ultra Sound that showed everything was ok and there was a normal range of fluid around baby. Then on to the non-stress test which also seemed normal. Dr. Grant came in and told us everything seemed normal but he was going to do an exam. I sent Seth and Landon to the care. I really didn't think they needed to stay for that part.
The second I laid down Dr. Grant said "oh" and I knew that couldn't be good. He left and came back in and told me he was sending my file over to Dr. McCoy (who I hadn't even met yet) and that I should head over to Boone. I held in all my emotions until I got into the elevator where I lost it. I came outside to Seth and Landon waiting for me and told them they had to take me to the hospital. All I really remember is Landon asking why I was sad. Seth telling me it was going to be ok and myself saying why does this happen to us.
We arrived at the hospital 3 minutes later, found a parking spot and walking into a place I though I had time to visit. (I know you're thinking I should have known to visit earlier). We walked to the information desk and asked where labor and delivery is and she asked "for you" and I said yes and she gave me a funny look and then told us how to get there. We get up to the 3rd floor and wait for the lady to get off the phone and then we were checked in and brought to my room. Then the next 5 hours I laid in the bed poked, pricked, questioned and have an IV inserted with a big mess that I couldn't look at. I do think I got to experience labor pain as my lower back was very hurtful off and on. It did take me awhile to figure those were contractions. I knew I had to wait until at least 4:00 because I had eaten breakfast so we made arrangements for Landon and Seth took him home.
A little after 4:00 I was walking down the hallway to the operating room. Seth had to wait outside and I always hate that part because it seems like forever that we are apart. I got my epidural and thank goodness I didn't have to hear them talk about it like I did when I was having Landon. Finally Seth was with me and they start poking to make sure I can't feel anything.
The next thing I hear is Dr. McCoy saying "oh no" I guess when I was healing from having Landon my small intestine grew into my old scar so when he went to cut he also cut my small intestine. Awesome....so he fixed that enough to move it to the side to finish getting the baby out. I had kind of forgot that we didn't know what we were having and with the commotion it seemed like a few minutes had pasted before I asked if it was a girl. At 4:30pm Brooklyn Rose was born with very little crying. She weighed 5 pounds 9.4 ounces. Seth got to cut the cord and take pictures while they determined if she need to go to the NICU or not. They decided she probably should since she didn't cry much to clear her lungs. I was able to see her and give her a kiss but then Seth and he were off while I continued to lay on the table waiting for the surgeon to come to fix my small intestine. It seemed like forever which is was...I wasn't out of the OR until after 5:30. Seth was already back in our room waiting for me. Then the fun began when we got the share the news that we had a little girl! Our new life with a kid at home and a baby in the NICU has started. We couldn't wait to bring Brooklyn home and begin our live together.
